non-gapped inductor?

I've started cobbling together my power supply for the "hydrogen bomb"
Poulsen-driven coil--and I need some help on the current limiting. I salvaged
a transformer with a core area of about 13in^2. The primary is about 350 turns
and the secondary is about 200 turns, tapped at 90, 120, and 180 turns. The
question is--could I short one of the windings (not sure which) and use it as a
tapped variable inductor, without having to gap it or hack off the
windings? My
power level is around 7kva.
