MMC Capacitors
Original poster: "M Fabs by way of Terry Fritz <twftesla-at-uswest-dot-net>" <the_machin_shin-at-hotmail-dot-com>
Quick question about MMC Capacitors. The amount of current a cap has to
handle at a given frequency depends upon the voltage it is being charged to,
and upon the capacitance. The caps used in MMC's tend to be very
overcurrent sensitive, right? So, can you select a value of capacitance in
each individual cap such that for a given voltage and frequency the cap
CANNOT overcurrent?
Typically caps of the largest value available are used in MMC's to get the
greatest capacitance/volume. Then, to make the cap bullet proof, you need
many in series. Would it be better to go with smaller individual caps such
that no string could overcurrent, and thus have a bulletproof cap?
Terry's MMC Calc program could probably answer this, but I am too tired
right now to explore it.
Merry Christmas everyone.
Michael.
