Re: large caps

Hi Matt S.
Your 60MFD 15kVDC cap is an awesome find!
No good for tesla coil service (WAY too much capacitance), but is great for
other experiments. This cap has the ability to store
[ .5 * C * (V^2) ] = (.5 * .00006 * 15000^2 ) = 6750 Joules
Which is one big cap! Suitable for quarter shrinking, disk tossing, water
spark gaps, wire exploding....lots of cool stuff. But aside from the obvious
danger from high voltage, it will discharge like a bomb if you let it. No
joke.

frequency would be super low, given the dual constraints: >>
If you charged a 60uF cap up to 15kV, and discharged it into a typical tesla
coil primary - - it would probably blow the primary to pieces. 6750 Joules??
A tesla coil of mine and a friends uses a bang size of around TEN Joules. And
that's running 10kVA.
If you can get this cap, do it. That's one cool piece of equipment to have
around. You could charge it with a pole pig and a high-current high-voltage
rectifier. Send me personal email if you have further questions about it.
