Wire materials

What types of wire material can be used in tesla construction? i see
copper being used on most every part of coils, but can say aluminum wire
be used for the primary or secondary? does the resistance of different
wire produce any notable effects on the coil?

i ask because out of boredome one night i wound s toilet paper tube with
some thin gauged plastic insultated steel wire and used house wiring to
make a primary. a few salt caps and a 15kv/30 nst. i didnt really expect
it to get any sparks from the secondary (which it didnt) but the question
arose if the secondary wiring had to be copper. just wanted to see if
anybody had tried something else
