A Tesla coil that will throw 36" sparks can be constructed with scrounged
materials, providing you are a good scrounger, 3 gallons of mineral oil is
sufficient for immersing a BIG homemade plate cap.  Lots of money is not
necessary.  Harold purchased a little booklet "Tesla Coil" from High
Voltage Press
and followed the basic instructions therein.  We, by choice, lived below the
poverty level, so had little money to spend.  Scout around, use your
ingenuity...a
necessary ingredient for coiling.  Simplifiy, keep trying, make it fun,
which is
what coiling is all about.
