 I'll try running from less transformers as you suggest.
My spark gaps are enclosed in a case, with a centrifugal blower forcing air
through the case, but it's not so much a blast. I'm wondering whether to
augment this draught with four seperate narrow air ducts blowing directly
through each spark gap. It's certainly pretty spectacular, even if it's
off-tune !
If I CAN beef up the output, I'm going to try shooting an arc down an ultra-
violet beam, but I'm worried about the juice going the wrong way up the beam
and blowing the laser.
The over-coupling is easily dealt with, hopefully, by opening up the
primary, from
a cylindrical to an inverse cone shape, though I presume it will need
retuning again.

Richard,

That's a lot of power for a small coil, so it should give much
longer sparks.  Maybe it's not really tuned properly?  You could
try an air blast across the gap.  With that much power the gap is
probably
power arcing which can destroy the spark length.  You could try
just one NST, and it might work better, depending on the cap size.
