ignition coil?
this was aslo the beginning step for me
i came up with a circuit using a stepdown transformer, MOT, MOT cap and a
spark gap. The GM distributer built in coil worked extremely well....too
well...worked so well that it would burn the insulation on the secondary
whenever i exceeded the current....(the GM iron core works good in oil)

the ford oil filled coil doesn't work as well but it is more promising
because you cant have secondary leakage...even tho it didn't beat the world
record (13 inches???!!!!), a 6 inch spark was good enought to quench my
thirst for tesla coils at age 13.
