I have a small 3.0" dia coil made from acrylic. No preparation is necessary,
just wind the wire. Be careful of what you use to coat the finished windings
with. I used polyurethane. The solvents in many types of coatings will
attack the acrylic and cause thousands of small cracks throughout the form.
You might test a piece first. I just got lucky on mine, but have since found
this problem with acrylics.
