8" Copper Spheres FOR SALE

I came across a good deal and hope to pass it on to some of the guys on the
TC list.

I bought 2 boxes of slightly damaged 8" diameter copper spheres from
McMaster Carr for half price. 4 parts per box. Part number 4658K24. They
have a mounting stem on the bottom with 1/4" threads.

The spheres all have several small dents in them. Nothing that can't be
fixed with about an hours work.

I drilled an 1/8" hole in the bottom of one sphere and filled it with water
and put it in the freezer. The ice pushed out the dents almost perfect. I
am a perfectionest and was't satisfied because the sphere still had tiny
places in the copper where the dents use to be. I placed the sphere on the
kitchen stove burner and turned on the gas. It took about 45 seconds for
the solder to melt. I picked up the sphere by the stem with gloves and
tapped on the solder joint with a wooden rod a few times and it came apart.
Before it cooled I wiped the solder off of the copper with the gloves. I
tapped out the rest of the dents with the handle of a plastic screw driver.
I put the 2 halves back together and resoldered them. I brushed a little
brick acid (muratic acid) on the sphere and in a few seconds it looked like
new. WOW, its perfect. I can't wait to replace my 6" copper sphere with
this 8" copper sphere on my 4" coil, 750 watts.

I have experemented with toroids and spheres. Its not the shaped that makes
the difference its the smooth surface and the radius of the surface. My 6"
copper sphere makes much better discharge sparks than my 11" or 15" aluminum
foil toroid, or my 8" and 11" rubber ball covered with aluminum foil, or my
16" dryer hose toroid.

I paid $30.00 each for these 8" copper spheres and I will sell them for the
same price plus postage. If anyone is interested?
