Mike,

It could be considered to be a large corona ring.  Yes, I'm just
using it to provide extra topload C.  I never break out from the toroid.
THe small coil cannot break out from the toroid, so I always use the
metal point above the toroid to let the sparks emit.  I did do some
tests with a smaller toroid that lets break out occur without a point,
but the operation is so raspy with so much kickback, with sparks
very thick, and I think shorter, that I don't like to run it that way.
