    A nitrogen filled gap would work, and with a much higher voltage hold
off and quench rate than in air, but the material of choice for high power
high rep-rate spark gaps is hydogen! because it quenches exceptionally fast.
SF6 would be a bad choice because under repetetive arcing toxic gas is
produced.
( I think I'm right on this)
