Re: Capacitance of a coil
" Is the capacitance the same for a coil with the same R and L whether
it
has one turn or 1000 turns? I am having difficulty with this. My
research
and limited tests indicates the Medhurst equation and equations that do
not
include the number of turns or length of wire should be used with
caution."
Medhurst's approximations do not include any effect due to the number
of turns in the coil, and appear to give very good results (agreement
within 5 or 10 percent) with measurements on coils of the type any of us
would wind. For very short coils, or those with very small winding
factor (large space between turns) the accuracy is diminished, but for
any "practical" coils the agreement is just fine.
