Many decades ago there was an agreed worldwide ban on the use of spark
gap transmitters because they took up large amounts of the radio
frequency spectrum. I think this could be largely the cause of the
trouble. Has anyone using a non spark gap coil tested for RFI results?
It would be interesting to compare RFI levels from different driving
techniques. You could, if keen, try some heavy duty RFI filtering on the
mains inlet where you run the coil, and cover the shed entirely with
chicken wire?
