Scope problem solved

[Moderator--I hope it's ok that I announce on the list that my scope
problem has been solved.]

Thanks to all who offered help with my scope. It turns out that a
6AN8 failed. Initially, all tubes appeared to be normal, filaments lit,
etc. Then today I noticed milkiness in the top portion of the offending
tube. I'm certain that this was not present moments after the scope
ceased working. An effort to remove it resulted in the spontaneous
falling apart of the envelope. The initial envelope failure must have
been sufficient to render the tube inoperative, but not enough to cause
the milkiness, a distinct symptom of a dead tube. Perhaps total vacuum
loss occurred over a period of days. Who knows...
I pass this along thinking that some of you may find failure
phenomena as interesting as I do.
(I'm sure the moderator will recommend that additional comments be
addressed to me.)
