A Tesla coil is not the proper way to power a ranch --- too much power
loss.

Forget the "free energy" myth.  Tesla never promoted this idea -- he was
often misquoted in the press.  In your engineering studies you will
discover the law of entropy and thermodynamics and learn why wasting your
time on "free energy" is bad.  Some people waste most of their lives
pursuing these and other equally absurd ideas (like Newman motors).  Tesla
was much too sharp in engineering to get caught in this trap.
