YES,  provided it is a synchronous rotary.  A sync rotary firing at 120bps
or 240bps will give very good performance.  (100bps or 200bps in Europe)

An asynchronous rotary is not suitable because it gives rise to large
voltage spikes which may destroy the transformer.
