RE: 12 volt primary circuit.
Tim,
See my recent replies re: small/first TC's.
Mine is portable uses 12v AA NiCads (1 watt, .04A 12V),
does 28" power arcs once per 3/5 sec.
It can be scaled up to your 1200W level + more robust gap.
Just requires a beefier DC-DC converter to boost 12 to 7kV - 20kV
Mine presently uses a commercial 1/5" TV video monitor 7kVout flyback
with the CRT and unnecessary electronics removed.
Design difficulty rises with higher power DC converters.
There are those on the list working on such.

Has anyone built a coil with a low voltage, hi current
primary circuit ? Something like 12 volts/100 amps. What I've
read on most of the web pages is that power in = power out and
that the high secondary voltage produced is a result of resonant rise.
I'd like to be able to haul the coil and batteries into
a clear spot in the woods with a couple of ground rods in place.
Out of sight with no AC power lines in sight either.
