RE: On /Off Switch Question
Most people just turn the variac knob by hand. I have toggled the switch on
my variac by hand hundreds of times with no problems. Sometimes I arc to
the grounded variac case, but that's not a big deal.
You would have to do something seriously wrong for the NST HV or the TC HV
to bite you from the 120V or 240V power switch.
Why not use a contactor (basically, a big relay) to control power to the
NST. Find one with a 12V coil and run the 12V out to a hand held "deadman"
switch. Wire it so that you have to hold a button down for the coil to
operate.

Would anyone give me advice on how to safely turn on my Tc?
I have used a 4' pvc pipe to push a toggle. I would like to design a
hand held switch. Is there a safe way to do this? Thanks All
