Re: New pics and scope waveforms
Coilers,
I just finished studying Richie's wonderful web site, and I have to say it
should be a MUST SEE by all list subscribers! Richie, you have made an
amazingly excellent contribution to understanding the theory and practice of
Tesla coil operation. The graphics are just superb and very helpful. And
the pictures are very impressive.
I guess one side comment would be that your graphic depictions make me
wonder why so many put up with the difficulties and semi-chaotic operation
which naturally comes with AC operation. Of course, AC operation is simpler
and cheaper than DC powered TCs. However, I would think the extra cost of
rectifiers, charging chokes or H-bridge rotary gaps, and DC reservoir caps
would be worth the greater control and simplified measuring capability it
would yield. Perhaps the DC crowd (well, small group anyway) should be more
vocal about the pros and cons of DC operation so the rest would know if it
was worth doing. Comments?
