Bryan,

How long of a spark do you want?  If you just want 15 feet or so,
you can use much thinner wire, and a narrower and shorter form, etc.
Even if you want a longer spark, you can still use thinner wire, and
a narrower form.  Coilers often use wire that is much thicker than is
really needed.
