Richie,
Your work agrees with what I've been seeing in my tests,
I've mostly been metering using a true wattmeter, and my emphasis

my static gap tests.

Agreed.

It's a great post, I'll have to go back and check the VA draw with
the static gaps with various sized caps. In general, I've never been
able to get very much spark output from narrow gap spacings with
static gaps and NST's, I don't think it's possible. (maybe 15" to 20"
or so if that. I didn't spend much time with it).
The two strongest and most efficient regimes I've seen are with the
sync gap with matched cap, and sync gap with larger than matched
cap, with some input overvolting in both cases, (140 volts into a 120
volt rated NST). The only set up that can give strong sparks at 120
volts input is the sync gap with matched cap, but the true power
draw is higher than using 140 volts input with the sync gap and
matched cap. By strong sparks, I mean 42" from a 12kV, 30ma
NST. Some folks may not want to stress the NST's this much.
However I haven't had any failures.
I'm still looking over your other posting of the radar xfrmer
sims.
