I used glass plate caps for years and when I switched to rolled poly oil
caps my output sparks length doubled. I had a lot of problems with the
glass breaking when it got hot. I could run a glass cap at 15K 90ma for 30
second runs and let it cool for 10 minutes and it was fine. If I ran the
cap for 60 seconds the glass would break. I was using 24" x 25" tempered
safety glass .150 thickness which is more sensitive to uneven temperature
than float glass or plate glass. Running the same glass on a smaller cap
and smaller power supply 15K 30 ma I could run the TC for several minutes
with out breaking any glass. I never tried putting any of my glass caps in oil.
