Thanks, everyone, for answering my question.  But you actually use a
utility transformer?  I didn't think that kind of thing was available to
the general public!  How do you get access to equipement like that?  And
how much would such a thing cost?  (Do I really want to know?) 
Anyay, I am just curious.  There's no way I would be interested in
tampering with a pole transformer, just a little bit too much deadly
current for a young and naive experimenter such as myself.  If I ever
actually do get zapped accidentally, I would like to walk away from it,
after all!  (Although having access to such heavy and powerful equipment
does sound a little tempting!)  Well, if someone in the group could just
write back to me and explain how and why you do the things you do, I
would really appreciate it.  (Because I know someone like me could never
walk into a place and order up a distribution transformer!)  Thanks.
