performance or life, then hook em up with no controls. Just measure the
filament voltage at the socket to make sure it is within spec, and go
for it.

	Should add that if you are going to be pushing the plate 
current hard then top end of allowable voltage is better, but not
by much.  I can't imagine operating a VT TC for more than a few
hours during its lifetime, so wouldn't worry very much about
tube life.
