Subject: 130kW Coil Update

Hi All,

The record-setting rain has forced us to keep
the coil in stasis since January; our total
rainfall so far this year is approaching TWICE
the average amount for an entire year!!

The forecast shows a possibility for a few
clear days this week though, and hopefully
we'll make some hurried progress.

The new and massive G-10 support blocks for the
stationary electrodes are installed on the rotary gap,
and I balanced the 4 rotors to first order last night.
One of the structural resonances (at 1250 RPM) is now
completely gone. The 2 critical speeds (CS) at 1500 RPM
and 1800 RPM are still present, but are not significant.

Next we will try to minimize the CS resonances by
shifting the balance weights between adjacent rotors.
Then we'll check for electrode interference at both
CS's before inserting the stationary tungsten electrodes.

Electrically, the coil is doing fine, all of the scoped
waveforms have been nominal. An insulator at the top
of the xmsn line needs a corona shield however, before
we go to full power. Other than that, there is a sea
of small tasks such as interlocks, barriers, and storm
cleanup that must be dealt with. I may effectively
be disappearing from the E-mail world for awhile, for
the dirty reality of the test site.
