Malcolm,
Some additional notes on your suggestion. I wound two identical
maggie resonators, one wound clock-wise and the other
counter-clock-wise, and drove the bases from the same secondary. The
tops of the coils had the same phase when run, and did not want to
arc to one another. Based upon this, I'd say that you might very
well could wind the second layer in the opposite direction and not
affect coil operation at all. But the only way to tell for sure
would mean winding a couple of coils and making measurements.
