Yes no oil, varnish or like.  By being super clean and held together with
plastic bolts and clamps I believe I have got more air out than had I used
something wet.  It does glow blue though with the corona around the edges
which obviously has air the thickness of the aluminium foil.  If I press
hard down on the stack of I do not get an increase in the capacitance
indicating its fairly tight together.
