Subject: 12kV, 30ma neon TC specs (42" sparks) was~coil size
Dale, Stan, All,
I had a few more requests for my coil specs, so I'm reposting this.
Spark length is 42" max....
toroid....5" x 20" aluminum dryer duct, (4" x 17" works almost as well)
sec......6.5" x 24" , #28 formvar magnet wire, place sec 1.5" above center
of primary coil. Form is yellow plastic gas pipe, 1/2" thick.
pri.......34 turns of # 12 stranded pvc ins. wire close wound, flattish
inverted cone, 15% angle.
hook-up wire....# 12
cap... .007uF polypropylene, Maxwell brand. Homemade rolled
polyethylene would work the same.
sync-gap....Special series quenching rotary, 8 spinning and 8 fixed
electrodes. Gives 120 breaks per second. ( a good vacuum quenched,
cylinder gap...multiple static...should work about as well, maybe 10%
less spark).
transformer....neon sign, 12kV, 30ma, Jefferson Magnetek brand
No special care was taken during constuction, for example I use a
needle poked into the primary wire as a tap point.
