Road side pipe scrap can easilly be tested for PVC or HDPE by heating
a small sample with a lighter or match.  If it melts and burns with a 
clean flame with little smoke then its likely to be HDPE/LDPE.  

If it melts, boils and produced black residue and smells
of chlorine then its PVC.

HDPE/LDPE is the best for secondary coils same reasons its best for 
cap construction.
