Steve someone here (lost the message) got one by
phoning round the electricity boards.
Neons are harder to come by here someone else used
oil ignition transformers (10kv 20mA)

Another alternative is to use two transformers salvaged
from old micro-waves: secondaries in series, centre earthed
primaries in anti-parallel. Gives about 4.5kV at 500mA.

Quenching the gaps is harder but its easier on the caps.

Are you sure you want to start with a pole-pig? - the advice
seems to be to start with a neon transformer and get
some experience before going on to a pig - this is
scary stuff!
