When the gap's not firing it isn't storing anything at all. If the 
gap fires and the top doesn't breakout, oscillations are prolonged in 
the system as a whole but that's par for the course. Of course they 
don't last from one break to the next. I'm not sure how your 
suggestion has a bearing on the problem?
