	You need a LARGE radius of curvature in order to keep the
"breakout voltage" high.  A disk with a sharp edge would have a
much lower breakout voltage than the toroid, for dimensions which
gave the same capacitance.

	There's been a lot of discussion here about making toroids
in various exotic, difficult, and heavy ways.  What is wrong with
the aluminum ducting / aluminum tape approach???  If done carefully
it gives a neat, lightweight toroid which looks and works "just
great".
