I plan on running the coil every night out at the Navy shipyard,
weekends included, between 7 Nov and 5 Dec or until something explodes.

A sphere 7 feet in diameter, made out of stainless steel rings.

I am building this coil in collaboration with a local artist
in Marin County (just north of SF), who is famous for his
large kinetic sculptures and gallery installations. This new
kinetic sculpture, which is titled 'Electrum', is for one of
his clients who unfortunately lives far away, overseas.

It's always fun to work with artists on technical projects, but
this project is especially interesting to me, since many of the
traditional coil design approaches have to highly modified in
order to meet the aesthetic precepts of the sculpture.

For instance, the secondary coil cannot be visible; it must be
on the _inside_ of the coilform. And the primary cannot be seen
either, so it must be inside of the secondary! The coil is
literally arranged 'inside-out'. Should this matter? We'll see.
