"Even if the 3055s are only rated to 60 volts, they shouldt blow (or atleast
i have never blown one) if you place them between + on the battery and + at
the coil. If they blow in that position, something is wrong."

	Wrong!-at-!!  The peak voltage across the coil (and switch
transistor) can swing up to several hundred volts when you 
switch off the primary current.  That's where the high voltage
comes from!
