Hi Joshua, All,
Below are my specs. If you haven't used
a neon sign transformer first then don't use these.
They put out a lot of current and are lethal.
Barry
"SYSTEMS, BARRY
Secondary Height=27"
Diameter=6" (recycled PVC sewer pipe)
Turns=~630 (5 LBS of #18)
Wire diameter=#18 gauge (.0421")
Top terminal Type, Size=toroid, 5 high X 20"diameter
Resonant Frequency with terminal=~200khz
Q without terminal (optional)=haven't measured
Q with terminal (optional)=""""""
Primary cap value=.04 consisting of 4 units of
0.01 uF capacitance rated at 30 kVDC for
continuous use at 300 kHz in RF induction
heaters. They are very low inductance
extended foil, polypropylene, metal can
construction from CSI ($200 each).
Peak primary cap voltage=14kv (two 5kv photocopier
transformers (H & R)in series x 1.414)
Breaks per sec=14 X 1750 / 60 = 408
Output length to grounded rod=56"
H & R transformer note: High voltage terminals
are too close together on some units and must be
separated. Suggest cutting one secondary wire
and splicing it with a lead of the same size
and covering same with teflon spaghetti. Secure
the secondary where it comes out of the secondary
with a blob of silicon rubber so that it doesn't
break off! Use a safety gap to ground for each
secondary. Set it to just not break down when
the transformer is run at 120 VAC input with no
load on the secondary. I used a choke consisting
of 100 turns of stripped RG 58 (solid polyethylene)
on each legg of a 1" X 4" X 5" core. It was wired
in common mode choke fashion. The cores of burned
out transformers would make nice chokes also.
Note: These transformers are very lethal as they
put out a lot of current. When I work around them
I keep the line cord plug in my pocket!"

Tesla List,
Has anybody built coils around the H&R kV -at- 300 MA transformers.
I just bought two and am going to wire them together for 10kv ,
