Try to run the 555 from a different battery than the supply battery. Also,
put diodes rated to 1 kv (1N4007) at the square wave output so that
interference cannot get thru it and into the 555. Put a 1N4007 (or similar)
"out" from the chip and to the ground, then you dont get any HV interference
there either.
