Hi all,

Yes, this can be done with an X-10 appliance module with a grounded
plug. This also can be programmed with a smart remote control device
that learns IR instead of remote code number remotes, (they suck
anyway). X-10 now is available for computer control for smart house
systems. However, I do not suggest running your coil when your computer
is on, unless you have a really good line filter and a Faraday Cage. I
have both and had no trouble so far.

It is really cool to be able to use a remote control to power on a Tesla
Coil, especially if you are doing a demonstration. X-10 makes a dimmer
type module. But I would not try to use this as a Variac.

Radio Shack sells X-10 stuff. You could also try a Hi Fi store for the
better quality brands and features.

Good luck,
