Some www literature suggests that a secondary can be improved by
winding heavier wire at the base where the current is highest. Sounds
reasonable. Does anybody have any empirical evidence that this
really improves performance? Also, could this practice perhaps
suppress corona breakout at the bottom from over coupling? I'm asking,
because I'm just about to wind a 4.5"x 22" coil, and I have some
scraps of thicker wire lying around that I could use if anyone
thinks it'll help.
