I would think the most you are going to ge out of a 10kv 23 ma
transformer
would be about 12" to 14".  You could certainly get more out of your
coil by
going to say a 12 or 15 KV, 30 ma transformer.  I set my safety gaps so
they
just fire ocassionally at full power.
