1. protection of the neon(s)
2. RF suppression for 60HZ line
3. protection of the user due to good HV insulation
4. cheap
5. no inductors to build"
The resistance of the spark plug wires would be way to high, and they
are not designed to handle much current, a few miliamps at most.
