There are a great number of factors the juggle in the initial design
including coupling of pri-sec coils, spark quench time, pri cap vs.
number
pri. turns (large cap & small # turns or small cap and large # turns),
sec.
coil elevation, etc. It seems most designs work best if the common
ratios
of 1:6 or less are employed for small and small-medium size coils. You
coil will still work fine --- you just need to use a few more turns on
the
pri than you would if it were shorter. Try 12 KV -at- 120 ma drive with a
.02
MFD cap to start out -- that should give you a good spark out of your
coil
if terminated with a 12 x 3 toroid. Suggest a 16 turn primary that you
can
tap at various locations to see which works best. Don't forget to use
some
scrap wood pieces to elevate your sec. coil in 1/2 inch increments to
get
the best coupling effect.
