I have built and operated a coil that ran on a 3Kv60ma "indoor only"
neon sign transformer. I built it without the knowledge and expertise
available on this list, but it would generate 4 to 6 inch sparks with
only a two-piece spark gap made of machine head bolts. I must admit that
it was built on the Oudin principle, where the primary and secondary
shared a common ground. I still have the transformer, and may attempt to
reproduce the effect with the knowledge I have gained.
