Yep, idea is old as the hills. There's an article on
spark transmitters in a 1921 QST which shows an 0.01 mfd oil-dielectrid
dielectric capacitor used in a "200 meter transmitter". Big,
and very difficult to make if you want to use reasonable spacing
between the plates to keep the size down to the limit set by the
dielectric strength of the oil.
