Try using a 3 inch dia. copper plumbing float for top terminal.  Use
primary cap size of .01 MFD and drive with a 12 KV 60 ma neon sign xmfr
(they like current).  Primary sparkgap of 4-5 gaps fixed with a 200-250 CFM
muffin type fan behind cap at 1 inch away.  12 turn primary coil in flat
spiral.  Elevate sec. coil so the bottom turn is approx 1 1/2 to 1 3/4
inches above the primary.  This should get you up and running with a good
spark output.  Tune & tap primary as necessary to achieve resonance.  Use a
variac to keep power to around 40% or less until system is in tune.  Set
pri. sparkgap with each gap at .025 inch spacing with 4 or 5 gaps.  Use RFC
chokes between xmfr and sparkgap.  Be sure to put sparkgap directly across
the xmfr output and cap in series with the primary winding.
