I seem to remember a recent edition of QST that featured a tall 
skinny coil that was attached to the top of an old radio receiver 
that was built by a woman HAM. Interestingly, she used a boost choke 
and rectifier to charge the primary cap although judging by her 
comments, for the wrong reasons. Good strategy though. I think there
was a woman into coil building on the usa-telsa list a year or so 
back.
