Gary,

You use of the air cap as a break down device is both interesting and 
novel in its approach as the capacitor is not needed as it breaks down, 
but only when succesive rings of the primary occur.  Still, the activity 
of the glow and tiny sparklettes are dead giveaways of huge amounts 
of lost system energy.
