Correction accepted: although graphite-plate tubes will take
considerably more - for longest life dull-red is a good general
purpose guide as to when to stop. (Same applies to drinking -
once you start to glow - stop).

                                - - - - - - -

I must however correct an erroneous notion which seems to be
abroad in the land - Tesla-land and other lands. It concerns
the price and availability of vacuum tubes.

Which is exactly my point. Abroad, in other lands, vacumm tubes
are widely used and readily available, and not expensive.
This would be primarily South America, Communist China, and
        Eastern Europe.

Heck - in some of those places anything which
doesn't depend upon ropes, pulleys, sprockets
                and hand-cranks is "high tech".

Soviet, Communist Chinese, and Eastern European tubes are
imported into this country by several firms and are avail-
able from distributors, as well as directly from the im-
        porters in some cases.

There is a coterie of audio enthusiasts who
dote on vacuum-tube amplifiers and who are in-
tent on building their own. They alone create
a tube market in this country.

Now, if you want Westinghouse, or Sylvania, or R.C.A., or
General Electric tubes - good luck (and bring cash).

The brands today are e.g. Sino (Communist China); Sovtek
(former Soviet Union); Tesla (Czech); EL (what's left of
        Yugoslavia); and others.

Did you get that: Tesla. You can build a TC
using tubes directly from Tesla. (Apparently
a commonplace name - there are lots of Tesla
this's and tesla thats in that part of the
                world).

As for prices - try these on for size:

                807 --- $ 6.90 ea.
                811 --- 7.90
                813 --- 25.00 (big mothers)
                845 --- 27.00 (damn big muthas)

These are Communist Chinese tubes. Slave labor goes a long
way toward keeping down the price of finished goods. Hellava
of long way. (Damn that Emancipation Proclaimation!)

                                Getting a glow on,
