Sounds like your using a mylar cpacitor, their notoriously leaky! The 
heating of the capacitor is due to low power factor, ie. it's absorbing too
much R.F. and converting it to wastefull heat. Correction, switch to 
polyethylene or ploycarbonmate dielectric, teflon if you can afford it. <G>
You'll see a noticible increase in output, maybe up to 5 or 6 foot 
discharges.
