Kevin,

I would take some large enough aligator clips and grind off the nose. Then
open the "teeth" so they lay  flat. Then curve them to shape around the
copper tubing. Now you clip them on and twist them around the tubing a
little. Once you can get the copper at the connection all nice and shiny
then you have a good physical connection.
