Addendum - The other point is that in waiting 1/k*dF, the gap has 
already wasted a fair bit of power. The point was made in the Guide 
that the primary should be cut off at the first zero crossing which
at least is when the least energy has been undesirably lost and its
current is the highest it would ever be. But I seriously doubt you 
could do that. I don't think the mechanics of the gap discharge would 
allow it. I'll recheck this.
